The perfect mathy card game to play with your family this week! You can play Speed Limit 99 with a large group, but 2-8 players is usually best. Customize your game by choosing how many lives everyone gets or using rules for no player elimination which I explain on my blog!

👋 Quick Rules Here! Double or Quits is a relaxing solitaire game with a little bit of math as well! Give it a try today and let me know if you win! How to Play Double or Quits Solitaire Shuffle and deal 7 cards face up to form your reserves Flip 1 Card start your foundation pile. Remaining cards form the stockpile. Build cards onto the foundation pile following a doubling pattern where the value doubles and decreases by 13 if necessary. (Ace = 1, J = 11, Q = 12) The pattern: A-2-4-8-3-6-Q-J-9-5-10-7-A-2... Play cards from the reserve onto the foundation pile following this pattern and ignoring suits. Immediately refill the reserve from the waste pile or from the stock if the waste pile is empty. Flip one card at a time from the stock into the waste pile, adding onto the foundation as able. When the stock pile runs out. Pick up the waste pile to form the new stock. You may do this two times total. Kings are worth nothing. If they enter the reserves, they stay there for the remainder of the game. IMPORTANT: if you begin the game with a King in one of the 7 reserve locations, remove it and addd it to the bottom of the stock pile and add another card to that location. Win: Get all 48 cards into the foundation pile with only the four kings remaining in the reserve.

Save this post for your next trip out! Knowing some easy games you can play with just a pen and paper (or a napkin) is so handy, especially when kids are getting squirrely at a restaurant waiting for the food to arrive or you need a way to decide who gets the last bite!

No board? No Problem! This DIY version of Shut the Box lets you play the game anywhere! You can even play it without the cards using a piece of paper or dry erase board and writing the numbers! It's a great game for a little screen-free fun with a dash of math practice! And if you're participating in this year's Summer Gaming Adventure, you can earn one of your Merit Badges by flipping all the numbers over and shutting the box! Have you colored in this badge on your poster yet?

Choosing the right game length to play is often the difference between a positive experience and a negative one. Attention spans typically equal 2-4 minutes per year of age; games like Mooki Island are perfect examples of how games can be designed for a young child’s natural attention span, while still having a great game for them to engage with. The bonus? Mooki Island games are quick enough to fit into even the busiest of schedules, which allows me to say “yes” even more when asked to play! Saved this and more of our favorite games for kids on our blog and Amzn.
