The 34 cockfight enthusiasts who have been missing for four years are dead and were buried in Taal Lake in Batangas, according to one of the suspects who wants to be a state witness. In an interview aired over GMA News’ “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the suspect – one of the six security guards at Manila Arena – said the sabungeros were strangled with a wire. Threats to his family made him decide to come forward, the suspect identified as alias Totoy said. Totoy vowed to name the person who ordered the killings in due time. All the victims, he said, had one thing in common: cheating in cockfight games. Totoy said they endorsed the victims to another group, which he did not identify. He claimed that drug lords were also buried in Taal Lake. The Department of Justice earlier sought the recapture of the six security guards who were charged with the kidnapping and serious illegal detention of the cockfight enthusiasts in Manila. Businessman Atong Ang addressed the recent allegations made by a self-proclaimed whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan or alias “Totoy,” who implicated him and actress Gretchen Barretto in the case of the missing sabungeros. “Mag-isip ka, Don. Overweight police officers have one year to lose weight or they will be kicked out from the Philippine National Police. PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III gave the warning on Tuesday, as he stressed his seriousness in implementing physical fitness standards among their ranks. “After one year, there will be a separation from the service,” Torre said over dzBB. He cited Republic Act No. 6975, or the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act, which stated that police officers must weigh not more or less than five kilograms of the standard weight of their height, age and sex. For those with medical conditions, Torre said they are looking at two options – either complete disability discharge or be transferred to administrative duties. A 62-year-old taxi driver was found dead inside his parked cab at a parking lane along Shuntog Street, near the Rizal Park and Baguio City Hall early Thursday morning. According to the Baguio City police, the driver was unresponsive when a private security officer conducting a routine check of the City Hall perimeter knocked on the door of the front passenger side appeared to be sleeping. The private security guard sought Baguio City Emergency Medical Service personnel, to check on the still unnamed taxi driver but declared him dead at 6:41 AM Thursday. Police said the driver is from Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet.
