Kendall and Glenn

We woke up early to go for a surf together on our 10 year anniversary. The sun was shining, the water was warm and crystal clear. Our mates Maria and Simon were out there and we were so stoked to see them. Glenn paddled out the back to them quicker than I had (which is typical, I always take ages to get past the waves). When I finally got out the back, Glenn paddled over with a different board than he paddled out on, hopped off it and said to me “how cool is this board that Simon shaped.” It was BEAUTIFUL. Exactly what I had been dreaming up as my next longboard. But it still hadn’t hit me yet… “It’s stunning!” I said, with a little bit of jealously for whoever was getting that board. He turned it over, showing me the underside of the board. The fin was what initially caught my eye — exactly the one I was dreaming of for my future board. More jealously was brewing. “Look at the dimensions on it”, Glenn said. This is where most boards have their length, width and volume listed by the shaper. But instead, this board said something else… “Will you marry me?” was written in all caps on the board. I gasped and looked up at Glenn who was staring back at me with the biggest smile. This was my board. And the love of my life had not only gotten it made for me as a surprise, but to ask me to marry him. A new longboard AND fiancé?! Instant tears. And smiles. And laughs. And a big ol’ YES. We spent the morning surfing together — high on life and love, soaking up this beautiful moment. My cheeks are still sore from so much smiling. I can’t wait to marry you (and be surfing together for the rest of our days) 🤍
