A pediatrician was reportedly fired after making a deeply inappropriate comment on social media regarding the Texas floods. Let me be clear: there is no place in medicine, or in humanity, for making these statements about a tragedy. To the families who lost loved ones, homes, and their sense of safety, I am truly heartbroken for you. The devastation caused by the floods in Texas is unimaginable, and my thoughts and prayers are with every individual impacted by this disaster. As physicians, we carry the responsibility to show empathy, not just in our clinics or this hospital but in our words and actions online and off.
