Ive now been balancing lifting plus Ironman training for the past 3.5 years and it’s been exhilarating… Everyday is a new workout, a new focus and something to work at. I was scared of a 1 mile run ⬇️ I remember when I was 18 years old playing hockey and there’s a teammate of mine who would run 1 mile on the treadmill every other day. I walked around the gym and when he was running out 1 mile I thought to myself how the heck is he running for 10 minutes straight. Are used to only run for maybe 30-40 seconds at a time for Hockey training. Fast-forward to today, I’ve ran dozens of endurance. Events ranging from half marathon races to full IronMan’s to ultra distance running. So what was the difference between my myself that was scared of running 1 mile to myself today? I slowly trained my way up fitness wise. I put in the hours. (Still am). I signed up for the race, even though I was scared. I committed to races that scared me. Because I know that I will find a way. Maybe that’s the thing for you to figure out. You need to commit and figure it out. Because if you don’t, you’re not gonna overcome the fears that you have today. Take it slow, be patient, but always know that you can improve. The more time you spend on, the better you will get at it. Running, swimming, cycling, lifting weights, reading, guitar, piano… it’s simple. Go out there and do that thing you’re scared of doing! your future self will thank you. How to improve your swim? ⬇️ I remember my first time swimming I was doing a 400m test… I couldn’t do it without stopping after 15m then I just did breaststroke the whole time. Fast forward to today I am consistently in the 1:30’s. Some hacks i’ve found: - Use Paddles + Pull Buoy on 1 session per week - Focus on your body position in the water (don’t drag your feet) - Get in a rhythm and be patient with your stroke Swimming is a very frustrating sport i’ve found… no matter how “fit” I am or look… It doesn’t translate to swimming. Swim more. Swim faster.
