Donald Trump says the US will ‘absolutely’ impose tariffs on the European Union, after placing 25 per cent tariffs on Canada and Mexico. The president had been threatening the tariffs to boost domestic manufacturing and raise revenues for the federal government. The executive order came into effect on Saturday (1 February). The president said: “As you know, we have about a $200 billion deficit with with Canada getting close to $200 billion. They've treated us very unfairly. And I say, why should we be subsidizing Canada? They, you know, are wonderful. I have so many friends in Canada. It's a great place.”

The final moments of the doomed Titan submersible can be heard in new audio released by the US Coast Guard. A thunderous roar can be heard as the Titan sub implodes, killing all five people on board. The audio was captured from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration device about 900 miles from where the sub dropped off the radar in Newfoundland. Donald Trump has issued a demand to Ukraine in which Kyiv guarantees supplies of rare earth minerals to the US as payment for war aid.
