Speaking up for MMIWG2S made me question how could I speak out about violence against Native women at the hands of non-Natives while letting myself excuse and ignore the violence I faced because it felt “easier” than leaving. I knew stats show the most dangerous time for DV victims is when an attempt to leave is made, and that day I was absolutely petrified. But it was also the day I decided to stand my ground and finally got out. I know there are others out there in similar situations. Don’t let yourself be the frog in the boiling water.
